Playtech plc is arguably the world's largest gambling software development company in terms of both revenue and reach. The company was founded in 1999 at the peak of the online gambling craze, although it didn't launch any casino products until 2001.
Since then, it has grown in leaps and bounds to not only become a major game developer, but also a licensor and provider of mobile applications and casino management software to digital gaming operators.
The company operates in 19 countries across the world and employs over 5,000 people, most of whom are charged with researching, designing, and developing new Playtech casino games.
In 2006, Playtech became the first publicly traded casino game developer when it was successfully floated on the AIM market.
A few years later in 2012, it joined the London Stock Exchange and thereafter listed on the FTSE in an attempt to take over the US casino scene, but which ultimately proved unsuccessful after a federal law banning online gambling was passed.
There are more than 700 Playtech casino games in circulation today in over 500 Playtech casinos worldwide.
These include classic 5-reel slots like Desert Treasure, which was a massive hit when it launched in 2005. Then there's also high paying video slots like Sultan's Fortune, Ace Ventura, and Thrill Seekers.
The company offers progressive jackpots, some of which run up multi-million euro prizes. These include Wild West, Spamalot Holy Grail, Funky Fruits, Goblin's Cave, and the popular Beach Life slot.
Playtech has further leveraged its large capital base to get into exclusive licensing agreements with major studios that allow the company to create slots based on some of the most successful movies and television series.
For instance, the 2009 collaboration with Marvel led to the development of highly popular slots like Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, and X-Men, which made Playtech games a mainstay in casinos until 2012, when they were forced out of the American casino market.
Around the time of the Marvel deal, Playtech also reached a licensing agreement with Paramount Pictures and subsequently created the Gladiator and Untouchables slots, based around Paramount's two most successful movies at the time.
Currently, the company is in a long term partnership with Warner Bros (forged in 2017), which has produced two successful Playtech games; Batman and The Joker Jewels, and Batman and The Catwoman Cash.
Playtech is also working to produce real-money casino games based on other renowned DC Comics Superheroes like Superman and Man of Steel.
As mentioned earlier, Playtech has operations in 19 countries, which are mostly concentrated in Europe and Asia. These include the UK, Estonia, Ukraine, Gibraltar, Austria, and Bulgaria.
It holds operating licenses from 20 regulatory bodies, including the Malta Regulatory Authority and British Gambling Commission.
Notably, and as also previously mentioned, Playtech Casino Games are not available for players from the U.S.
Popular payment methods used such as American Express cards are also not accepted by Playtech.
This means if you are an American casino player outside the US, you can only access Playtech games using a pseudo account. For real USA casinos to play, at follow this link.
